Toronto — A van hit and killed 10 pedestrians in Toronto, Canada on Monday. The collision also injured 15 others.
Authorities have announced the van has been found and the driver is in custody.
U.S law enforcement sources told the media that the incident appeared to be a deliberate act. Witnesses said the driver was speeding and appeared to be acting deliberately.
“If it was an accident he would have stopped,” Witness Peter Kang said. “But the person just went through the sidewalk. He could have stopped.”
The suspect is named as Alek Minassian, 25, from Richmond Hill — a town in Ontario, Canada. No official motive has been established in the case.
“Based on what we have there’s nothing that has it to compromise the national security at this time.” Chief Saunders said in response to terrorist questions.
Toronto Police Services Deputy Chief Peter Yuen released made a statement regarding their efforts to resolved the situation.
“I can assure the public all our available resources have been brought in to investigate this tragic situation,” Yuen said earlier.
