A new wildfire in California closed parts of Interstate 405 Wednesday morning near Los prompting evacuations — one of blaze scorched more than 83,000 acres, burned buildings and forced tens of thousands of people to flee over three days. The winds are expected to pick up in Wednesday evening and Thursday potentially up to 50 mph, posing a risk of further spread.
After being exposed for steroid doping, Russia’s Olympic team has been officially banned from the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. In addition, the Russian flag will not be shown, the national anthem will not be played, and the country’s government officials are forbidden to attend. Individual athletes from who are awarded participation rights will compete as individuals separate from Russia.
Starbucks opened a 30,000 square foot “Reserve Roastery” in Shanghai Tuesday. Its the largest Starbucks store in the world, and is the beginning of the company’s new retail outside of the U.S. The roastery provides a tourist like destination in China, which is Starbucks largest growing location, with plenty options for coffee and tea. Starbucks already has plans for an even bigger Reserve Roastery in Chicago in 2019 at 43,000 square feet.
