Today, head coach Ben McAdoo announced the team will take on their week 13 matchup against the Oakland Raiders with Geno Smith as their starting quarterback.
McAdoo had hinted he would look at all options, including at quarterback, weeks ago. He is now taking that notion into action this week.
“Over the last five games, we will look at Geno, and we will give Davis [Webb] an opportunity” Coach Ben McAdoo said.
Eli Manning has started 210 consecutive regular season games for New York. This will come to an end despite being given the opportunity to start the game and play the first half.
“Coach McAdoo told me I could continue to start while Geno and Davis are given an opportunity to play,” Manning said. “My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them. Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won’t finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can.”
Eli is coming off a Thanksgiving game against the Redskins in which he went 13/27 for 113 yards and an interception, with a low QB rating of 6.3.
